Well, I had my first screw up today in the water. I ran out of gas. For sure I thought I had plenty in the tank. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the gauge does not work. Well, some nice guys gave me a pull to the dock and I went and filled her up. Then back to the lack for 2 more hours of skiing. Fun hobby, isn't it?

Welcome aboard...Isn't it nice to know that fellow boaters(most of the time) are there to give a helping hand when a crisis happens upon us...have you fixed the gauge yet??

fixing the gauge is a good idea.
Getting a small jery can is a better idea.
Once you run the big tank dry its time to head in and get more gas, simply add gas from jery can and head in. Also handy if you meet someone who was in your position simply hand them jery can, and let them fill, then you dont get stuck towing someone all the way to the dock.

This being said, I learned the hard way that having extra gas is a good idea!

Must be nice for cheap fill-ups. I've got 2 x 75 imp. gal. tanks. It costs $600 to fill when they're near empty. :(
Luckily I don't need to fill it often!

I did the same thing last Friday 7/25 I noticed that I only had a 1/4 tank left so I started heading in. The gas gauge on my boat apparently stops at 1/4 tank so while I was heading in I ran out of gas 1 mile from shore. when I looked for it I realized the dealer never actually put an oar in the boat. I was stuck out on the water till 9 P.M. after using my whole airhorn can emergency flag and all but 1 flare trying to get someones attention. cell phone didn't have service and I was told no one uses vhf there so I never bought a vhf radio. What really sucks is I have to spend about $40 replacing all the emergency things I set off trying to get someone.

Shadow!

Wow! How did you finally make it in? Did your efforts finally attract someone's attention?

Definately invest in a VHF even if it's only a hand-held. It's gotta be better than nothing.

Re: Well I did it.....

4pm on a Sunday (6am flight the next morning to NYC, needed to take the boat out and trailer it to Boston) Brought my brand new 22' Cobalt out to show off for the last time this weekend on Winnipausaukee...after 20 minutes was waived down by group of 7 in an 18 foot, 20 year old piece of junk...I was pissed at the owner for putting his family at risk like that...My wife saw that there was a baby on board and no matter.. they were being taken to wherever they wanted. I could see they did not have the spare $150 for seatow. I loosened up (after 10 minutes of towing) and towed them 3 miles to their dock. It actually ended up fun because I got to tow them through a narrow bridge with good headway and a Police escort. I did my good deed. The best part was they chased me down an hour later as I trailred my boat at the Marina and offered me money for gas. I did not accept it but the owner offered me a quart of Vermont Maple Syrup, which I accepted gladly because that is what he farms in Vermont...effort is always rewarded
