Look at the bright side, you now get to play the Wal Mart game.

1. See how long it takes before you hear a crying kid/baby. I usually hear one within 5 minutes, but sometimes it is my own. :%

2. See how many backwoods freaks you can spot. I had three on my last vist, which is my high score.

Sorry for jumping on this post, but this statement always burns my Azz! Sorry if I`m reading something into this post that wasn`t intended.

The jobs at Walmat are mostly entry level jobs, in my opinion, these are jobs that mostly people with little or no education past High School will fill while they are bettering there education. That`s what flippin burgers or working in the local carwash and shelf stocking jobs are. These jobs are not suppose to pay enough to raise a family on. We all started working somewhere like this. My first real job was pumping gas for minimume wage. You just can`t pay someone much more that that for that kind of a job. I eventually was able to go on to school, join the military, learned a trade when I got out and so on.

So, Minimum wage jobs have a place in our society so you shouldn`t expect to get more than minimum wage for stocking shelves and walking around the store with a vest that says, "May I help you"?

Lube yes you are right Minimum wage jobs have a place. But what happens is Wally starts hurting the businesses that provided living wage jobs, in turn they either layoff or close one by one. The next thing you know the wage earners are now looking at these MW jobs because it is all there is. That leaves that money they used to spend in other businesses around town scratching their heads trying to figure out what happend (When they already know) No money for them either so layoffs or close.

It is a visious cycle. The only ones that win are the the Corporate honchos in AK.

Thats my rant and I am sticking to it!

It is a very complex problem. I am no fan of Walmart, but I am a fan of free markets. People have to quit shopping small local stores for Walmart to drive these stores out of business.

Having said that I also believe communities allow Walmart and major chain stores an unfair advantage thru tax abatement and free roads, sewer, water, etc.
The local governments look at increasing sales tax revenues, and the number of jobs created. They forget to look at the big picture and harm done to the community.

Walmart is cheaper on some items but not all the time. Name brand boat oil is cheaper at the marina than Walmart here. In the same way, Home Depot is not the best or cheapest place to buy building materials.

Even if I have to pay more for items, I try to shop small town stores.

a few years ago I live in Redbluff Ca. wallmart was the major employer in the area, other than them there were mostly part time jobs around, most work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet! I do shop at wallmart for some things, :/

Walmart, the high price always!

I have a couple of small tackle stores I frequent quite often, but the small tackle store has Power pro for $26.00 for 300 yards, Our local Walmart has the same thing for under $20.00. I just bought three spools so I saved about $20.00. That`s four more packages of plastic worms I don`t need!
