Few small businesses pay more than Walmart for that type worker and few have benefits as good as Walmart. The point that few should expect to support a family on what these unskilled jobs pay is a valid one. We are essentially talking about people without a trade or advanced schooling or have retired from something else. Some even appear to be overpaid.

Yup, In my experiance at Walmart there have been 3 types visable on the floor... the energetic young man stocking the shelves, the young lady checking you out, and the elder person that spits their dentures at you while saying "welcome to Walmarthp"

Don't get me wrong on this, most if not all of the elderly working there do it to keep busy. In my experiance, most, if not all elderly are RICH. (I'm talking 75 and up)

They all have great health care (from their own purse, and that's why they are as old as they are) and the ones outside of the Nurseing homes want social contact (inside too, but that's another story) and just something to do with their lives.... and Walmart hires them... maybe at minumum wage, but what do they care?

The point is...... WALMART HIRES THEM!!!!... would “mom and pop”?

Won't do Target either, no Toys for tots sponsered by the Marines.
I do care about the crap and political reasons of these stores and I refuse to support them. My choice.

Marines Toys for Tots
Target greatly respects the good work of the Toys for Tots program and all the volunteers who make this program a success every year. Target has a longstanding policy of no-solicitation by any group or organization at our stores. This policy includes the use of our store locations as collection or drop off sites for any type of activity.

Target has this policy in order to be consistent with the numerous groups that request access to our stores and to provide our guests with a comfortable, distraction-free environment. Our solicitation policy does not diminish our commitment to our communities. We support the communities we serve in many ways, donating more than $2 million per week and hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours each year to nonprofit organizations nationwide.

Target Corporation wholeheartedly supports U.S. veterans, reservists and active-duty personnel and their families. We are proud of our record and remain committed to continuing support of veterans' organizations as part of our overall charitable giving program.

Snopes may be wrong accordng to Target.

Kagee, Best Buy has admitted that rebates suck and are scams. Partly due to your attorney general (the plan was in the works before then). There were 90 complaints in Ohio, hense the lawsuit. They have almost entirely gotten rid of them. Complete absense of them by next year.

On the other hand I know that Circuit City has kept the rebates for themselves by hiding them from consumers. I am not sure about other places.

Tommays what I mean by the "game" is how Wal-mart manipulates the vendors...........more so than other retailers. They force the vendor to sell to them below cost, and the vendor does it because they are afraid not to. Then to make that up, the other retailers have to pay more for the same good. I don't agree to that. It doesnt seem like free market economics to me, where the price is set by the demand and supply of the product, not by what walmart wants to pay. Its partly the vendors fault I supppose, but I can't really blame then for they risk losing lots of volume by not going through walmart.

I think we can all agree to disagree on this one. There is a lot of evidence for both sides of the argument.

LOL @ EE, I still have other reasons to go to Brookfield.........Fudruckers being one of them. I'll drive anywhere for a burger with an icecream scoop of guacamole and a huge buffet of items to throw on a burger..............then there is that jalapeno cheeze sauce.............

Ever check the Wally prices after they low ball prices and run small business competition out. Amazing they claim not to do this but prices at different Wally's within 100 miles often have different prices on the same items. Hummmmm, wonder why.

Re: Well it finally happened.........

While Wally World keeps building more, there will be a limited population to support the stores. Ten years ago there was just one in this 20 mile area. That store was busy 24/7. Now there are 3 Super Wally's and they are busy, but not like the single one was before the others were built. Upper management of the newest one built is disappointed due to the lack of customers. Maybe this is the thing of the future. Instead of bargain hunting at different stores, it will be bargain hunting between the different Walmart stores competeing for customers.

Meanwhile China is having a boom in their economy,,,,,,IMHO that sucks for the USA.......Thats why I havn't stepped a foot in one for over 5 years! I'm not rich by any means (due to being a boat owner) but I do my best to support the mom and pops business.

"Vendors are forced to sell to them at below cost"??

How does that work, or rather how do they stay in business? I would agree with "at a lower margin than they would like" but not at a loss. I don't know of any CEO that would allow that.
In the Socialist Republik of Wisconsin, I can see the clamor for everyone getting the same benefits and rates of pay. Can one buy margarine there yet or still only butter?
I love WalMart for some items. I find that Ace Hardware has a better selection. My prescription insurance makes my cost the same no matter where I go, so I go to a local pharmacy. The fishing equipment selection is limited so I go to a local sports shop for most items. I buy few clothes at Wally World. As I said, ammo is cheap but I buy 5.56 online. Come on, it's not the end of the world. Just shop intelligently and your local stores will do fine, unless they've been overcharging you anyway.

As i said before I work for a plant that makes personal care products that get sold there

NOBODY can make us sell it we have to agree to there terms if we want to sell there

We are lucky in that we have allways made low cost products that people want and the fact that the products are all FDA approved you just cant start wipping it out in china :)

Its not the case with a lot of Vendors.....only a few. A good example I have heard of is on some Televisions. I think the Vendor (for sake of an example I'll use Toshiba, and yes I know that doesnt fit into the American business venture) thinks that if they don't contract with Walmart they will lose far too much of their marketshare. They figure that the added volume they are producing, along with raising the price they sell to other corporations, they will come out at least equal to where they would be if they contracted with Walmart for the same as they normally would a different store. Thats how I see it at least.

OJ,

I don't know if you said this facetiously or not. If not, we finally agree on something.
