Re: Well it seems to be official...

You know, I might be better suited as the "Head Honcho - Bottom Feeder Division". All the rigs that aren't into spec or have major issues and ready for the scrap pile, send out to my neck of the woods for fixen.:D

You mock me on paint prep, but I will say this...

I would soooooo rather do that than wire wheel an old rusty trailer 26' in length!

And!

I think you are about to embark into the same job my friend! Thankfully, you have a bit less hull to work through.:) Since I heart ya I'll be down to give ya a hand. Just shoot me a pm when you are on that task, hold your breath, and I'll be down, sandpaper in hand;)

Ed do you mean I should start a boat company? Thanks for the support buddy!

No VP of Sea Trial Operations available...but you can be the "Executive Vice President of Quality Control" which means you can take a boat out and test it whenever you need too, or delegate that pleasure to others.:p

I'm thinking about putting out a 22' and 26' model to kick things off, are you going to be available to do some paint prep work prior to testing these things out:D:D
Why not open a boat co. Hell with all the TAX Breaks Big Brother gives us the next two years we must all be RICH. LOL I bet the worst part of a mfg of any type would be marketing the product.

Me thinks if Starcraft wants the big boat market they should try to match the TROPHY line as they are wonderful on the Open Water. High off the water and the walk around hull makes for good easy fishing. The Trophl Line seems to hold its value thru the years better than most boats.A boat of that design made out of Aluminum , Now thats dreaming.

Re: Well it seems to be official...

Around ten years ago I was surfing the net looking for info on Starcraft. I ran into a company that was taking old SC and rebuilding them for resale. They would strip them down to nothing and put the back with new rivets and wood ect. It was a new boat with old sheet aluminum. I would think that they didn?t survive as I have not been able find them since.

Can I join the board of directors? VP in charge of taking guys out fishing.

Marketing the product would include water demo opps.

The credit tightening, economic uncertainty, and ridiculous new boat prices creates a new niche', just like the auto market. The hardest units dealers can't find are quality used cars in the $1000-4000 range. These are the most coveted for the above stated reasons.

They can't be found because everyone who owns them can't afford to upgrade, or can't get the credit, so they keep them. Trade-in units have declined sharply and so has the wholesale auction lines. As a CPA for nearly 30 years, half in the retail automotive/dealership arena, I saw this mess coming.

So, lets form an entity, apply for an SBA 7a loan to rehab affordable tinnies for folks who want to get back on the water. There is enough talent and desire in this group. Imagine being able to fix these things up for a profit!

GLG, your post wasn't up when mine posted after, but, ten years ago pretty much anyone could get credit for a boat if they had a job. Not in today's market so timing is everything, as they say!

GLG I've got you down for "VP of Client Liason Field Operations" and tenatively have you set up for a 2nd floor corner office...NW corner of course:p:D

Ed I agree that the Trophy walk-arounds are great...very similar to my Dad's Seaswirl Striper 24' hardtop. Very dry, comfortable ride in swells.

I think the fiberglass hulls let them get away with a wider beam that aluminum is capable of using normal thickness tin. I agree that would be a nice rig, a tin walk-around.:D

Re: Well it seems to be official...

Hey there Huron Angler, thats where my Islander came from. I live SE Of Toledo Oh. the person I bought it from, bought it in Huron. Seems that the original owner thought the engine was blown and let the boat set for 7-8 years, second owner bought it with intention of replacing motor, but found it was a srtipped dist gear. Cleaned up everything and did most of the restore then his wife wanted bigger and better, I came along as they were arguing over it and wound up buying the boat. He did not want to sell it..SHE did..
I just happen to be in the right place at the right time. Nice boat !!!
