Well, we put a deposit on a 2006 Tahoe Q6 SF that we really like. He was asking $15,900, the book value is $14,200. We agreed on $14,000. It seems to our untrained eyes to be in pretty good condition. We made the purchase contingent on a marine surveyor inspection that is satisfactory to us. (Something we learned from you guys!) So, I have to find a marine surveyor tomorrow. How do I go about finding one? Do I just call a local boat dealer? The boat is located just near Worcester, Massachusetts. Thanks for your help! :p

Ask the broker/seller for recommendations on a surveyor. If he gives you some, say thanks and then don't use any of them. Then go to the SAMS website (google it) and find an accredited surveyor in your area.

It's just good practice. Sort of like the real estate agent that highly suggests a home inspector. They develop relationships and pass work to each other. While they may be perfectly honest and capable, that relationship makes it harder for the inspector or surveyor to provide an objective review when it could ruin the deal for their friend.

I'd rather just use an accredited surveyor that has no relationship to the seller.
