I have a question for the pros, on the lower outdrive in the water pump lower housing that goes onto the drive shaft first, there is a small bleed hole near the rear dowel pin. When I test for water seal with the muffs on water bleeds out, at first (not seeing the hole) thought I had a gasket leak and was driving me crazy till I noticed this hole. Any help would be well appreciated. Thanks Buz

Soooo, not very clear. When you run it on the muffs, where is water leaking from?

Or are you trying to bench test the pump???

Martin, nice boat, mine is the same except color scheme and log type manifolds. Your outdrives are the same as mine, If you look at the base plate of the water pump housing and viewing as from the back of the outdrive the front of the plastic housing where the dowl pin sticks up for the top housing (that the impeller sits in), right underthat dowel pin is a small hole that goes through to the pressure side of the impeller. If your like me having spare parts around, take a look and its easy to over look. I was testing the lower unit off of the boat with the muffs on. The reason I was interested is because anyone testing the outdrive that way would think there is a leak from one of the gaskets. I would assume its a relief port for excess pressure relief. I'll bet even the guros don't know about this. Thanks Buz

Hmmm, don't know on that one. I did both impellers/housings last year right after I bought her, and tossed all the old parts. If you're concerned its a defect, order a different brand and see if the casting is the same.

Marten, I have checked several pump bases and there all the same, when I look at something I like to know its purpose and see if there is an improvement on that item, I have been a mechanic for a lllllllllong time and seen a lot of assi--e supposed improvements. If every engineer had to use his desine himself things would be much better. So far there have been 56 views, I guess even the gurue's don't know. By the way I found out those pumps put out 0.6psi at idol and 7psi at 2800rpm's. thanks buz
