Had Dish a few years ago, had cable sence then, Now have Direct TV. Boy am I glad to be back on the Satelite. So much better picture. Cable was crappy out here, Im near the end of the line. I think I liked the Dish Network better, but once you have been on one you cant get the promotions again, so I went with Direct this time. Box in two rooms. Only had one box last time.

I recently upgraded from regular DirecTV to DirecTV HD, LD. I am still awestruck by the picture quality. I did get the promotions by going to DirecTV's Customer Retention. Saved me hundreds of bux, thanks to great advice I got right here.

I have had DirecTV for the last 4 years. I much prefer it to Dish Network. Especially the improved version, it is much more intuitive. I have always found Dish to be more complicated than it needs to be, but its all personal prefference.

Re: Went back to satelite TV

Like JB, I recently upgraded my DirecTV receiver to HD. Amazing! Note: I did not alter my subscription or pay extra fees for the HD. There are some things in the process of changing at DirecTV. They are moving the programming distribution around on the satellites to manage resources. Don’t know all the details but rumor is a lot of the standard programming is changing over to HD. DirecTV needs the sat resources to implement a new View-On-Demand service and won’t have the sat resources to broadcast everything in both regular and HD for the same program, so some default programming is going HD. I believe that is why DirecTV just bumped the basic subscription price a couple $$$/month. I subscribe to HBO and I get Showtime free so I receive all the HBO and SHOW channels, including the HBO-HD and SHOW-HD included with those packages. A lot of people don’t know if you receive a premium program (HBO, etc) to also get the HD version of that service included at no addition cost.

For me the best feature of DirecTV is being able to put the service on no cost suspension for the months I spend up north, no charge to turn it off or back on, just a toll free call and wait 30 seconds, try that with cable, yeah right, they charge a disconnect and re-connect fee.

All perspective I guess.
My MIL has lived in the same house since the mid 60's. Always have used Rabbit Ears for TV reception. I got tired of seeing her always adjusting them on each TV to watch and record what she wanted. So a few months ago while she was away on a quilting weekend Mrs.Link and I put up a outside Antenna and ran coax to each of the TV's.. Didn't tell her about it and left the rabbit ears in place.. :D
She got home Sunday evening around 6pm and called us around 8pm asking what we had done to her rabbit ears? LOL Said reception was perfect and it made no difference how she turned them!
My Bad My Bad ;)

We have Direct TV and really enjoy the picture quality.

A few weeks ago we dropped payment for the HBO and Cinemax premium movie channels because we were not watching them. We were either renting the movie from Block Buster video or from the pay per view channel. By the time the movie gets to the premium channel, we have seen it already. Saves about $25 a month.

Yes, I am now getting the premium channels free for three months, but I will drop them like a rock when the end of the three months comes around. Marked it in red on the calender. We looked all over this weekend for a movie and either we had seen them all, or they were too racey for us old folks. There were however some good fishing shows I will miss. FLW outdoors for one.

I have dishnetwork. I am satisfied with the quality and such, but I want to convert to HD and they want 300 for the hd converter box. I am thinking about switching to directtv to get the special they are offering. I have no choice. I am fairly rural and cable is not available where I live and you get like 4 channels with an antennae.
Later,

For me, the coolest thing about switching to Dish Network was the DVR that came with it. Comcast couldn't offer it at the time. I get a better picture and sound, more channels, and more functionality for less money!!!
