Went to walmart to get the 2yr old a new life jacket.....Earlier today, I was looking at anchors and chain and line because I need to update my setup. I had even called iboats at one point today for prices. Now the local walmart is carrying an Attwood marine line of products...some pretty neat stuff that I had seen online at some places.

So anyways, I was able to use a gift card I had to get new anchor chain and line that I have been needing. I spoke to the sporting goods guy there, and he said this is the first year they have carried it, and they have since expanded the marine/fishing isle because of it. So, if you need something in a hurry, you might be surprised at what they are carrying nowadays. thats all. Before I get jumped on here, check the Iboats store first for your boating needs though!!! lol.

Re: Went to my local walmart today...

Good tip, thanks! I'll have to check out my local Wallyworld stores to see what's available in the marine section.

I like Academy Sports too. The prices seem to be very good and they have great customer service. They once did something that really suprised me and has caused me to shop there over and over. I went to buy a couple of things, including a new winch for my trailer, and took my then 3 year old with me. When I loaded him back into the van and strapped him into the car seat, I had one bag in my hand, but left the winch in the cart.

Of course I drove off like an idiot and didn't discover my mistake until I got home. I immediately went back and asked the guy at the front door if anyone brought a winch to him, or if one of the cart guys had found one. He said no, but got the manager involved. The manager checked my receipt for the product and the day/time I had purcrased it. He then gave me another one, even though I told him it was my fault and I didn't expect any favors!

Now that's customer service!

Glad to hear that you got things worked out. Wal Mart really is awesome.

I wonder if they bought up a bunch of old Boater's World stock?

As for getting jumped here for going to WM... I wouldn't worry about it in the least.

Wallmart is good in a pinch but as they eliminate the compitition the prices rise. I've been pleasently surprised by iboats and cabellas

dont forget to check out the main clearence isles. every store has these. its kind of a dumping ground for the "deleted" items.

I work at WM and spotted a pile of 1 7/8" trailer couplers in the $1 section..

The only problem I had is went in the other day to get new flares and they don't carry them anymore.
The guy said he did not know why.

are you sure? 99% of their stuff is listed online, and the online price is the same as what you pay in store.

Unless they recently changed their policy, that's not the case.

In fact, Walmart won't even price match their online price, with the page printed out. You can have the online part delivered to your local store, though, for free, but that takes a few days.

I have ordered from iboats, Cabella's, and Overtons and have found the prices to be very similar across the lines for certain items but not all. It is a good idea to shop around.

Our local Kmart is carrying the Atwood line just as our Walmart is. The only big thing I see is the convenience of going to the store if you need something last minute. Otherwise online purchases are good if you can get good deals on shipping.

Re: Went to my local walmart today...

I bought one of these floatation devices for my 2 year old. Bought it at Walmart. It's made by Stearns. It works really well.

haha, thats the one we went to get. Got the red one for the boy, hope it works alright and he likes wearing it. Thats the big thing, letting the kids pick em out so they like wearing them.

this is what disappointed me just before memorial day, hence the reason i was surprised to see the marine section had expanded. I couldnt believe they didnt carry them. Speaking of which, guess im making a trip to BPS to get some before the weekend lol.

Re: Went to my local walmart today...

i am find the attwood stuff more expensive than the seasense line they carried before.

More expensive in general. For example:

A pack of 2 Atwood polish applicator pads is $6.25, walk over to the automotive section and you'll find a two pack for $1.86.

A plastic Atwood tire chock is $7ish - in the automotive sections is like $4

I love how they try to "specialize" for boaters....only to try make more money off it.

Let me know how it works for you. To be honest, it's the best floatation device I've ever seen for the little ones who can't swim yet. And we'd tried everything!

Re: Went to my local walmart today...

They stopped selling the 3M 4200 and 5200....Merc gear lube and Pennzoil 2 stroke oil too..
I think the WM boating section is worse than it used to be.
The Atwood line of products don't really cut it for me...

i am finding that they are all different. Ours just started carrying merc lube and quiksilver products and the attwood line about a month ago. its not my first choice, but its a quick, inexpensive alternative if you are about to head out and realize you need something RIGHT now lol.
