Apparently the PO did not feel the need to have a thermostat and this explains why my temp gauge showed cold!!
Anyhow, Mercruiser 165 inline 6 GM 250 and I'd like to know which way the thermostat is supposed to be installed in the housing. I'm not sure what to call each side, but, there's the 'flat' side that opens, and there's the 'spring' side or 'tail' side that compresses.
Thank you and remember...the only dumb question....
Oh, and one more thing, the gasket that came with my kit does not have any metal/brass buttons. I thought it was supposed to have contacts to connect the housing to the block. Do I have the wrong gasket?
