Were do you tune?

I was just wondering where everyone does there fine tuning on there motors? I need to make some very fine adjustments to the carbs around 3000 Rpm?s with resistance on the prop. I can?t really do this underway since I would be bumping and bouncing around so I wanted to know if anyone had a better way of doing this.

Knowing what engine you have might just be a little help to us don't you think? However, there are no 3000 rpm adjustments. There is an idle mixture and the high speed jets are fixed (non-adjustable). In fact on some motors even the idle mixture is fixed.

actually that would depend on the motor as there are most certianly motors with high speed adjustments,i have several myself,though their all 30hp or less in that particular catagory for me.

1996 60Hp Merc outboard. And actually silvertip there are idle mixture adjustments that are recommended to be done a 1500-2000 and finer at 3000. So were or how can this be done without bobbing around the lake?

That is why I asked which engine we are talking about and yes, many small older engines did have knobs on the front for high and low speed mixture. You can keep the boat on the trailer, back into the lake and run the engine under load to whatever RPM the prop you have will allow. Just make sure the boat is secured with stern tie downs and that the winch strap passes UNDER the bow stop rather than over it. A bow eye safety chain should also be used.

No concern on sediment running through the cooling system when doing this?
