Bought a 1967' johnson HP, not working. Replaced the electric shift cable, water pump, and oil retainers. Starts up fine and it engages in gear fine. Back plate on the motor isn't getting very hot, but I'm not seeing any water come out. Question is, were does the water come out at? Is there thermostat or somthing that regulates the flow of the water? I didn't want to run it very long just in case. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

The water comes out just below the bottom of the cowling on the back of the motor. Look for the holes.

Water will mist/ spray out of that single exhaust relief port on the lower cowling.----If you were skiing behind this motor you would see water pouring out of that hole.-------Most of the cooling water is expelled down below by the prop.

Thanks Racerone! That's were I noticed it coming out, but it was a spray and not a single stream so I wasn't sure if it was running correctly. So I understand this right, I should only see a mist spurting out of the relief port and the rest exits out the lower end with the exhaust? Because it is the exhaust relief port is it normal to see a little bit of exhaust coming out if it when I shut the boat down? Thanks again !

The actual amount coming out that blow hole varies with temperature (thermostat status). That varies according to speed, lake temperature, load, etc. But there should always be SOME coming out.
