my brotherinlaw found a great deal saturday morning at a yard sale he bought a 9.8 merc that had been sitting in a guys garage for years he was told the motor ran when it was put away he only paid $25 i have not had a chance to start it for him yet i lubed every thing and i have spark just going through a few more things before i put it in the barrel to start i can find a serial no. but not a model no. to find out the year. it has a 110 on the cowl is that the model no. also i want to check the bottom end oil it has a plug way up high on the bottom end that says flush and about 5 to 6 inches above the very bottom of the lower end there is another plug when i take that plug out i don't see the oil on most motors i have seen there is a drain and fill plug below that one what is the trick or sorry i should say technique thanks

The flush plug is for salty motors. The vent plug should be below that. I believe you're correct about the model #.

You are indeed correct about the model # being 110.

Mercury used to add a "0" after the HP rating for the model # up until 1979. Yours says 110 because it's closer to putting out 11hp (When New), but was labled 9.8 so it could be used on lakes with a 10hp limit.

Good Find!!!
