Were they always?

I talked to my brother in law who is also my boat mechanic about my stalling problem. I have a 1990 Force 150 HP that stalls at idle and when shifting. After discussing repair options he asked this question, What did they run like when they were new? I'd did not know so I'm asking anyone who has had a Force 150 since new, Did they stall when they were new? Thanks Bill Mc

Maybe your idle RPM adjustment is set to low. Can you get it to run at all in neutral, long enough to check the RPM?

I know on my Foce 125, it has a Screw for idle that is attached to the Timing Tower, not sure about the 150s, as I have never seen one. This adjusts the idle to keep it running correctly. Every time I make any changes to mine, I must adjust this to keep it at about 1100 or 1200 rpms on the drive way. This way when I am in the water, I am just below 1000. This is where mine needs to be so that it will not stall out when I put it in gear.

I bet you anything this is your problem.

Coming into the harbor my rpm have to be 1000 to 1200 or she'll die. Today as I neared the wall there was a boat in front of me so I slowed to 800 when I shifted to reverse it stalled. When starting up I let it warm at around 1400 and if I move the shifter slowing out of neutral to forward she dies. I have to shift quickly and back off the throttle after she begings to move forward. The boat that was before me today was a 92 Bayliner with a 120 Force. He too has problems with stalling at idle speeds. All of this lead to my brother in laws question When they were new did they have stalling problems. WE are going to rebuild the carbs before next spring. Thanks Bill Mc
