West Bend 7.5 don't know much about it

I have just acquired an old (probably early 60's) West Bend 7.5 horse outboard motor, it is white in color. It looks very clean and all of the knobs are there and they move. The motor turns over fine. I could not find any serial number on the motor to give me the year or to help whoever is reading this. Where does the water shoot out of this motor? I could not find a discharge anywhere and I assumed it would shoot out near the bottom of the cowl like the newer outboards. What can I expect from this motor? Are they good motors? What should I do to bring it back to life? New impellar i'm sure, but where is it at? Thanks for any help you can provide me.

The first thing you need to do is locate that model no. its there or was...you could post a picture of it here as well to help ID it and then get a good manual,

Fairly certain it is a 1960. Look for water spraying out exhaust relief holes halfway down the backside.

I'm winging it here because I can't see it, but the impleller should be in the first bulge above the cavitation plate.

West Bends were Ok, but faced mighty tough competition from the "Big Three". The company was later sold to Chrysler. Then Chrysler was sold to U.S. Marine (Force) as part of the first government bailout of Chrysler. Then it was sold again to Mercury, who eventually dropped it.

Thank you for the info. I checked the spark plugs for spark and noticed that the bottom cylinder DOES NOT have any spark. Any ideas on how to diagnose and fix this problem?

FRs right on 1960.Became Chrysler C: 1966 and Force:1985.
Usually if you clean and adjust the points(under the flywheel) it will solve no spark issues. If coil(s) are discolored or cracked replacement is necessary.

do I need to pull the flywheel off to check the points? I can see where the spark plug wires go under the flywheel but I cannot see any points. Do I need some type of flywheel puller tool?

yes you have to pull the flywheel. A harmonic balancer puller is necessary.you can find a cheap one at harbor freight.

Re: West Bend 7.5 don't know much about it

Ok thanks for the help! But I have another question. The fuel connect on the bottom of the motor does not look like anythink I have seen before. I already have a gas tank and fuel line with connect that I used on my 90's Johnson 9.9, but this does not look anything like that. Does this fuel line fitting take a special kind of adaptor or what?? This is really throwing me off.
Also, how do I go about changing the impeller on this puppy? Because I'm sure it is dry rotted.

Thanks

Here are some pictures of the fuel line connect from my 1963 West Bend 7.5. When I first acquired the motor it did not have the female end pictured. I looked everywhere and could not find one. The original owner found it months later, lucky for me. I would suggest replacing both ends with more common modern fittings unless your a purist.
