West bend 80hp Mix ratio?

hey, do any of you know what oil ratio that im supposed to be running? I think that its supposed to be a 50:1 mix, but i dont have anything backing this up. its a 1964 West bend/chrysler 4 cylinder 2stroke

I couldn't find anything about the ratio. Most everyone switched to 50:1 right about then, but...

You might want to run 40:1 or even 32:1 until you find out for sure. You'll never go wrong with too much oil, but you sure can with too little. It would be a real shame to see that nice old engine ruined.

Keep looking for the specs, but play it safe until you find out for sure.

Whee! There's an owner's manual for a West Bend 80 hp on ebay right now. It's buy it now for $35. I'd grab it if I were you. Another may never turn up.

My 1970 after market service manual states 24:1 with an asterix.
Paragraph says 48:1 carefully mixed.Making sure tha idle mix screws are adjusted carefully with any error on the rich side.Also the correct high speed jet is to be used.
I would think that TCW3 rated oil is miles above the oil available in the late 60s early 70s

OK. I think I'd probably run no leaner a mix than 32:1 in that outboard. Actually, I'd run 24:1. No harm to that, and an old engine needs all the help it can get, I think. I don't know what type of bearings it has, and if they're plain bearings, the heavier mix would help protect them.

I'm very conservative with this stuff. I run 40:1 in my 1992 Johnson 6hp. It smokes a little more, but...what the heck...
