After reading a lot of good threads on iBoats I started "deOxidizing" my hull today. 400, 600, 800, 1000 & 2000 wet sand then 3M marine compound 09004 and finally 3M imperial compound 06044. I didn't want to push my luck with the gel coat so you can still see some of the old stripe lines but we're going to re stripe it in the same place so I'm not too concerned. Thanks to everyone who posted their wet sanding advice in previous threads. I think I read them all!

Re: Wet Sand, Buff & Polish

Looks good. :0 But there was probably no reason to start with 400. Also 1500 and 2000 grit sandpaper is less aggresive than 3m compound. 600, 800, 1200,1500 and then 3m finess it and then wax and you would be good to go. What I am saying is you could have skipped a couple steps. Did you do the sanding by hand or da sander? Polish with a buffer?

I did actually need to use 400 and the test spots I did showed a better finish when the 2000 was used.
