Wet slip

This is my first full season with a wet slip, no electric. Over the last 2 days I took 4 teenagers tubing and swimming. Had to close her up last night while the carpet was still wet. Today I started thinking about the level of lube in my outdrive and the fact that checking it when it's submerged probably wouldn't yield the best results. The topper was refilling my 44 gallon tank at $4.29 per gallon.

So, we've decided that when it needs refueled we'll pullt the trailer down and take her out for fuel. Same time I can check lube levels.

Thats one benifit i like to being able to trailer my boat. I have thought about hte idea of paying a fee to just keep it on the trailer at the marinia. But Gas refill is one reason, and the 2nd, i like to be able to wash my boat, do things on it here and they when its at home.

Does your marina allow you to bring your own fuel?

If they do, it wouldn't take long to pay for one of those 20-30 gallon gas caddy things with the gravity feed hose. Of course the additional issue is that you have to have a vehicle that allows you to transport this quantity of fuel, so that would basically mean a pickup.

I suppose as an alternative, you could schlepp 5 gallon cans, but that gets to be a lot of work and it's time consuming to pour 30 gallons from 5 gallon cans through a funnel.

But you need to check if BYOF is allowed. I know many marinas that don't allow this citing environmental and safety concerns. I also know of at least one large boat owner who made regular dates with a commercial fuel delivery service to meet him at a public access dock to refuel, but he could put on 400+ gallons at a time so this arrangement isn't for the small boat owner.

It's always a trade off somewhere. We paid $500 for the season which I thought was reasonable. It's an hour away and a 1/4 tank of gas if we trailer it each time so it's a savings until you pay the $4.29. We talked about schlepping 5 gal cans but that's just not doable. The walk from the parking lot to the slip would be killer.

I get the being able to wash and keep up with things on the boat. After being at the wet slip for 2 weeks it's starting to look tired. My HOA doesn't allow for boats (at least not for a very long period) so I have to plan maintenance around a 48 hour period where it can sit in my driveway at home.

Also added a second battery just for comfort and the fact that the bilge pump only has battery power to rely on.
