The decals on my 2006 Mercury 60 EFI Bigfoot are starting to peel off the motor cowling. I emailed Merc hoping they would say, sorry about that here is a new set. Instead I get a reply with a part #. I track the part down and whoa, $309.17. I found it on one site on sale for a mere $250. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement.

Check out some sites which sell vinyl decals for things like boat and sign lettering, they can make pretty much any of them

Mercury (nor anyone else) does not give anything away. My issue is that the decals used to last 20+ years. Not anymore.

There are aftermarket sources for Mercury and other motor decals. Their prices will still be $100 or so.

Considering that the decals serve as a form of advertising/promotion of their products, you think they'd want to insure those things stayed on and looked good.

I would certainly look after market and while they will still be expensive, they would be a better price then factory. Factories think that if you can afford to boat, you have money to spend. At least that is what I get when looking at factory parts verses non-boating parts. Any time you have Boat's, RV's, ATVs or any recreational parts involved, you better have a large back account. It is the way the world works.

Yes it certainly sucks and really is a hard hit to the wallet. Friends think I am going to starve if I keep a boating hobby since they claim it is just a growing one till you got nothing left... maybe they are right hobbies are for rich men

all factory decals are pricey (boats, cars, trucks, airplanes, etc.)

I remember looking at a set of factory sno-fiter stripes for one of dad's trucks when I repainted it many years ago. was $2200 in decals. decided to go with custom painted stripes

Heck the little pin strips on my '95 Ranger truck are over $100 dollars. That's never going to happen. I can paint them with stripping tape and paint for a fraction of that.

You're looking at it all wrong. $250 is ONLY 1 quarter of a B. O. A. T. unit. ;)

Yep, boating is expensive.

Just for reference info, do the peeling stickers effect its running?

Remove them, Merc's loss, not as much free advertising.

Besides you might pickup 1/1000 of a MPH w less drag and weight savings w no stickers :)

I do understand wanting to keep your stuff looking nice.

Maybe write to Yamaha or Evinrude, explain your situation, and see what it would cost for a set of THEIR decals for your merc... Might get a set for free!

Yep, boating is expensive.

How well I know that. I also have a houseboat with twin Merc 5.0l EFI's. :joyous:

Thanks everyone for the information.
