Wow..Too bad he wasn't fishing in the annual Black & Blue Tourney..
That would be a BIG BIG Money fish!

Also noteworthy was 60# test? had to do a lot of chasing that bad boy down!

Line strength bears little relevance in these situations. You set the drag to accommodate the lesser of the strength of the line or the strength of the angler. Typically the limiting factor is the angler. Most people can?t deal with #40 of drag for more than a couple of minutes at a time.

A cinder block weighs roughly #40. How long do you think you could hold a cinder block off the ground on the end of a 5?-6" stick?

They were way off on the weight of the fish, no reason to kill it other than they wanted pics. They prolly killed it anyways by prolonging the fight which I seriously doubt was 28 hours. That's the issue with lessening the drag, you will kill the fish, fish the right tackle.

Couldn't agree with you more, capt sam. What a shame. It saddens me to see a billfish brought to the dock. If the fish did die during the prolonged fight, let it go, and let Mother Nature take her place. To me that's like somebody displaying their favorite dead pet.:(

Upon further review, and keeping up with this, you are correct capt sam. She weighed just over 900# according to the electronic scale.

Here is an excert from a recent article:

Finally, the billfish tired and was brought alonside the boat, and according to Ehrenberg, Biehl chose to have it gaffed and brought to port. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime fish. I want to take him," he said.

Surprisingly, Biehl went fishing again Monday and caught and released a striped marlin, before himself succumbing to all he had been through by coming down with a bout of seasickness.

Seasick? Those were the "Fish Gods"......I ask myself "Why do you want to take that fish?"...Gaff her?

I wish those so-called fishermen and that so-called captain many safe returns, but never land another Marlin....ever!
