man, boating sure is fun.

all this in 18 hours.

-101*F at 6pm on sat. with 50% humidity. high winds, 10-20 gusts to 35
-broke the hose connection off my muffs.
-wonderful night on the lake till midnight. 71* for a low, diminishing winds
-got to watch 2 fellas drag there sunk, plastic 2 man fishing boat in to the ramp at midnight. gf got to watch one fall off the dock while retrieving the boat onto the dock prior to loading it on the roof of their car for the trip home. i missed it cause i was out watering a tree... :(
-slept like a rock onboard w/o my back cover on. was a gorgeous night.
-got up to nice strong and hot homemade coffee by the gf right out of the van on sun. morning
-went boating and got rained on for 3 hours. stayed nice and dry inside my hardtop w/ the rear cover deployed.
-came in by 1pm after the rain
-got the cover on just in time for more rain.

ya can't hardly have more fun than that in 18 hours i don't think...

finished off the day with grilling steaks in the rain.

man, what a good weekend..

Re: what a great 18 hrs.

thanks gary, it was a good day. this weekend was alright too. don't think that i even got in 18hrs though.

it was touch and go if i was even going out this last weekend. 50% chance of rain for most of the weekend. gf had to work on sun. and didn't want to overnight at the lake. which i can understand. anyways, tried to get some work on sat. to no avail. gave up about 7pm and decided to go for some night boating by myself. that was a new idea that i'd never done before.
i got out to the lake just prior to sunset. pretty much had to turn on the nav. lights as soon as i hit the water. the temp was good but it did look like rain and had a nice lightning show off to the north of the lake. had pretty gusty winds too. 15-20 or so i think. enough to cause whitecaps anyways. so had a good time on the water till midnight or so. came back in and tied up to the local dock at the boat launch site. hung out and watched a pontoon get towed in after i was tied up. pretty lucky anyone was able to help him. there weren't that many folks on the lake. i'd have never seen him either as he was back in the submerged trees fishing. a place i never take my i/o for the trees. + i don't have a depth finder. anyways, they were ok. got there pontoon loaded up and fished off the pier all night long. how i don't know as in the middle of the night it stormed bad. i didn't get up to see, but the winds were gusting bad and my boat was rocking and rolling even tied up to the dock. but they was still there in the morning. dedicated fishing guys i guess. made me my morning coffee in the van and went back out on the water. had a good time. called up the gf and talked her into coming out after she got off work. she only got in about 3 hrs of boating, but i guess she was alright with that. i wouldn't have, not long enough.. ;). loaded her up about 1 or 2 pm and called it a day...
these short little boating episodes are pretty good. let yer hair down and relaxing. what fun... oh, i did where my pfd the whole night while on the water. not something i usually do, but w/o anyone else along and no one hardly knowing i was even out. i thought i might be a good thing to do..

a few more pics of this last weekend... about the same as last time..

Funny thing, some would say your day sucked  Not me. My favorite boating moment was piloting a Houseboat into a nasty squall. Shirt off, raining cats and dogs, water lifting off the lake . . . It was awesome!!! :D

Re: what a great 18 hrs.

Wife and I were talking about getting a bigger boat for weekend trips and camping just in case it did rain, the times we did get rained on we headed to nearest marina and waited it out, bow rider is alot of fun will keep her, but we can't control the weather especially when they hit out of nowere, so yes we would like another for our weekend trips in case it does rain, drop anchor if needed and wait it out, at least us and all our stuff won't get soaked in the proccess. Beautiful pics!! We would'nt mind the rain then

yep, not me either. i think there might be a few more of us here on the iboats too would be my guess..... it's the excitement of the experience i think, test ye ol skipper skills even... maybe even a little dangerous... gotta take her out in the ***t to find out what she's capable of taking on ya know... better to do it this way than to find out w/o knowing what she's capable of..
water lifting off the lake? hum. don't know if i been out in that kinda weather but that does sound exciting for sure... i wanna try... :)
And no defroster????
yep, no defroster (must not have been as humid as last weekend. i didn't fog up like i did the other day. or since the gf wasn't along, perhaps less heavy breathing... ;))... it's all aristocrafts fault... and here i thought they'd thought of everything... heat would be nice too sometimes... ;)

Sounds like a great day. Nice job documenting all the different weather conditions with your pics!

Similar QC, I got to prefer bad weather when I used to go camping in Michigan's U.P. with a buddy. Taking a hike in the woods was a whole different experience-- in rainy weather it was dark, misty and spooky. In nice weather sunbeams would shine through the trees and birds and chipmunks would be frolicking around-- I called it "Disney weather"... a string of beautiful sunny days got boring.

Two days straight of nonstop rain was about my limit though :p

Yeah, I like to snow ski in storms too. There's nothing better than having the right gear in a full blizzard and just waiting for your tracks to be covered . . .
