What adhesive will bond this?

I've got a Hamby keel guard on my bay boat. I noticed recently that it is starting to detatch from the fiberglass gel coat on the bottom, just a couple of inches. I want to get it re-attatched before the problem gets any worse. My issue is that I do not know what adhesive will permanently bond that (rubber/plastic) to the underside of the boat? Most of the apoxys and similar products seem make no promises on polypropylene, poly this and poly that. I'm concerned that the Hamby material will fall into that catagory. Any advice would be great.

contact the manufacturer of your keel gaurd...

but epoxy is a very, very, good glue

If it's the top of the line Hamby then it's fiberglass to the boat. If it's the inexpensive type keel guard that most DIYer installs then you can use an Epoxy.

I know what I would try. It's easy, cheap and reversable in the event it doesn't work out the way you planned. Clear silicone caulk. It adheres great to every hull I have ever owned. The surface must be clean and free of any wax or other residue or oxidized paint. Some acetone on a rag will take care of that on both the hull and keel guard. Spread a *very thin* layer of the caulk on the keel guard, press it back into position and duct tape securely until it cures.

....and if it doesn't work, you'll never get the surface clean enough to try anything else. Silicone caulk leaves a residue.

If you don't want to take it to a dealer for repair, I'd try epoxy and some thin matting, or possibly something like 3m 5200. Whatever you try make sure the surface is clean with acetone, and scuff up the surfaces if possible.

Nonsense. There are a number of solutions for removing silicone caulk. I used one of them on my tub surround but the name escapes me now.

I'd rather be removing silicone caulk than epoxy any day.

The 5200 would be my choice.If the keel guard goes over any of the trailer rollers the 5200 should give a little flex where epoxy could crack.
Just my opinion...

5200 5200 5200 5200 5200 I think I m gonna name my boat after this stuff, I love it and its close sister, 4200 4200

5200 has a long cure time, and you ain t takin it off, 4200 quicker cure time and you can almost get it off.

The 5200 now comes in a quick cure I believe.

5200. I'd put a board , or something up against it to hold it tight against the boat for a couple days.

Walmart is selling the Fast cure 5200 and 4200 now..
I keep a tube of each in the cabin.It is great stuff..
