Re: What ales ya?

I am a pale ale fan myself. I brew mostly pale ale variants such as IPA's and amber ales.

Interesting trivia: Guinness is almost as low in calories as bud light. Since Guinness comes in 16 oz cans you have to do a little math to compare it to bud light.

Guinness 16 oz serving has 196 calories and 18g carbohydrates. Converting to a 12 0z serving (16 * 3/4= 12) yields 147 calories and 13.5g carbohydrates.

Bud light 12 oz serving has 110 calories and 6.6g carbohydrates.

My point is, don't fall for the light beer story. It's about as real as light cigarettes.

If ya gonna go dark, Guinness is as good as it gets ;)

Maybe my UK compatriots can answer this.

Why does Guinness in America and in many pubs in the UK vary in richness and flavor, when compared to the majority of pubs in Ireland?

Have anyone else ever noticed that?

Yesterday my local Albertson's had 12pk Fat Tires for $10.99 :D Limit to 2 per person :(
I went back today and they were all gone :(

Guinness have just addressed this problem. Until very recently it was brewed under licence at various breweries in the UK and I would guess in the US to.
Just a few months ago they expanded their capacity in Ireland and now all the guinness sold in the UK is imported, I don't know if this is the same for the US.

Can't really pick a favorite, as there are so many good ones.
I really enjoy a lot of the Belgian strong ales, and Trappist ales.

Used to drink a lot more, then it was Busch Light. My favorite was Michelob but it was kind of high priced.

Now that I barely drink a case a year I drink Coors Light. Coors used to be watery tasting but now it is fine with me.

I still prefer a shot of Jack Daniels.

When me and Dad were fishing in Canada, LaBatts or Laurentide (sp?) were good.

Now it's just Bud....the longneck version. I also enjoy a Jim Beam on occasion.

I am with pony love that leines stuff especially the creamy dark. I love trying any thing new wether its imported or from some small micro brewery i try them all. have been going to woodmans and they let you make your own six pack. then i have the bottles on display in the screen house up at the cottage. looks pretty nice if do say so my self. at last count i had 55 bottles and no doubles and no brewerys like miller or bud or strohs all micro's or imports.
Surprised at all the dark beer lovers. Guinness is my favorite. For local, I like leine's red and berghoff dark. But will drink what ever is in the cooler :D

Re: What ales ya?

What is it with these cartons of 18 beers? Seemed to me that 6, 12 or 24 count cartons gave us plenty of choices. Is this another marketing ploy to get us to buy more or is there a price increase coming? Like some fellow said on an earlier posting, I may be paranoid but other than that I'm just another normal guy. There's a bill before the Washington State legislature that will allow retailers to buy directly from manufacturers without going through distributors. In this State retailers and distributors must mark-up alcoholic beverages at least 10%. Retailers are never allowed to sell below their costs even on special promotions. Just another example of good government that is provided by our taxes. Is there something wrong here? I know, the original poster just asked what our favorite beers are, not for a disertation on government control over our lives!
