ever seen that movie heartbreakers? there is a scene where they go out boating, and Ray Liotta says "wow! look at all the fish!" Then pulls out his hand-gun and starts shooting at them.

HA! Hilarious

I appreciate threads like these. I'm not a rookie to boating, but this boat is the first I've ever slipped. Normally, if I needed to work on my boat, I had my workshop of tools since the boat was home. How I've been compiling all of the tools I might need. Nothing worse than getting ready for a day of boating only to find a major problem you don't have the stuff to fix at the lake.

The things I need almost every year are a jumper box, knife (rope in props) a big rubber coated magnet and first aid kit.

honestly, if you don't know your boat well enough to have to ask what tools fix what, then maybe you shouldn't try.

I wouldn't follow this advice it means going out completely unprepared!

Stuff you might forget:
electrical tape
spare SS screws. these are the most used items in my box.
spare bulbs if you go out at night (my stern light has gone out twice, it gets bumped around a lot)
a socket set, sometimes an adjustable just won't fit
spare plug (never had to use it)

Usually "fixes" when I'm out are just tightening up things that have loosened up. Sometimes its a required fix (alternator belt slipping) , sometimes its just a nicety (bimini top losing a screw).

A lot of fisher man up here carry a gun when halibut fishing. These fish can get big and brake the boat apart if not killed out side the boat before bring them on board. 75 -100 pounds is herd of at least once a year.

Sorry maybe you missed the point,

Was just trying to start a "fun" topic.

Maybe a new boater could get some Ideas, Oh well maybe wrong thing to do if people are going to take offence.

I do own 3 boats and have been boating since I was 12 ( drunken father couldnt handle his booze) that makes it 22 years of experience.

One more thing I have yet to see.....

I keep a plastic 3# mallet and an assortment of tapered dowels. they will fit the three below waterline fittings on my KeyWest. I always have a mask aboard. We run long distances offshore and if I needed to plug a hole from one of those fittings breaking and cannot reach it thru the bilge, I would be prepared to head over the side to plug it....

Thanks for clarifying. I happen to be a newbie and really appreciate threads like this, so I always get taken back by folks that add undermining comments. No harm done. Forums/email can often misconstrue what is actually meant.
