Re: What are the regular things that get done when your boat gets serviced?
I have an outboard so I can't speak to I/O maintenance, but for my outboard I do the following:
- Drain gear case lube
- Remove prop and grease the prop shaft
- Grease all swivel points (see service manual to identify these points)
- Refill gear case
- Pull old spark plugs
- Compression check
- Check ignition
- Replace spark plugs
- Check electrical system
- Check safety related items (steering, fuel hoses, trailer lights, wheel bearings)
- Check timing
- Check cooling (replace impeller every 2 years)
- Adjust carbs
You really should reference your service manual for these items. When I first purchased my boat I let a local shop do the work. I paid for this service for my first 3 seasons. Since that time I have slowly weened myself away from professional help. Now that I have become more comfortable with my motor, I do almost all my own work. Saves me money, and I have a personal knowledge that the job was done correctly.
