Upper one is drive shaft bellows and the lower one is the exhaust

Oh and you do have to remove the drive to replace it. It's not that hard, do you have a manual?

These are bellows. The red dot is the one for the drive. It keeps water from entering the boat and keeps water off the u-joints for the drive. As a result of this rip expect to buy at minimum new bellows and gimbals bearing. The bearing will go bad whenever water gets into it. And if siezed will cause alot of damage.
The ujoints that these bellows protect if rust or sloppy in any way will need to be changed. Also if they get rust on the them it will act as sandpaper wearing down the seals on the drive and lead to fluid leak and or water contanination.

The good news is the blue dot is for exhaust gas and water. This one ripping is not as a big deal and you may only need to replace it alone and be ok.

While replacing these you might as well do the other boot which sits between and to the right of both of them. If the others went bad this one is probably not far behind it

No i dont i just got the boat today and put it in the water and found water coming in so im guessing this is the problem with the water coming in.

the top one is where the water was coming in. The bottom one usually wont let water leak in. What year of you boat and what model drive.

it a 82 with mercruiser i dont know too much about that stuff. So how do i take it apart to replace the drive hose.

Go to Dons adults only section and downl oad the manual. Without it you will be in real trouble. As long as youre doing it you should change the lower shift cable and bellows. That's the other small bellows off to the right.

im downloading the manual right now. how long should a job like this take and can i do it by myself or do i need help and special tools?

well, i would wager bondo will jump in here and tell you to install and exhaust tube instead of the bellows which were there. If you do this, you will not need the exhaust bellows expander tool. But, you will need a hinge pin tool to get the bellhousing off. And if you need to replace the gimbal bearing you will nee a tool to do that.

But you should pull the drive first and see what and how much damage was done by the leak.

the directions said to remove 6 bolts and the power trim cylinders. is that all i have to do to access everything.

make sure you put the drive in forward first. And this will let you see what has been damaged. But to fix the bellows you will need to take the bellhousing off too...

so by removing these six bolts and the cylinder i should be able to pull something off. im not that familiar with boats. sorry for all the ?'s I'm just trying to see if this is a real hard job or if i should just take it in to be done. i know how to work on cars so if this is just as easy as a car i can do it myself

You will be able to remove the entire outdrive along with the drive shaft. I'm gussing 150 lbs or so. A second guy to help lift it is always welcomed.

Ayuh,... That's the 1st piece to come Off,... Btw,.. It's about 80lbs...

Once it's out of the way, you can decide what Else needs to be Replaced...

You're probably lookin' at doing ALL of the Rubber parts, the Lower shift Cable,+ the Gimbel Bearing...
Maybe More...

If your a reasonably competent Automotive Mechanic, with a reasonably Stocked Toolbox,...
The Specialized Tools can be worked around...
Go with the Exhaust Tube, rather than the Bellows,+ you eleminate the need for the Expander,...
The Tilt Pins can be turned out with a Big Allen Wrench,...
The Gimbel Bearing Puller can be built for parts laying around,.. Basically a Slidehammer..

You'd better Finish reading the Manual before you go too far,...

Hey Bond-o, You mention putting in a exhaust tube. I just bought a boat last weekend and finally got to look it over real good this weekend and when I lifted the stern drive I looked under at the bellows and there were only two, the drive shaft and shifter bellows then there was a oval shaped tube were the exhaust bellows should be, came out a couple inches from the upper. Its a 1980 mercruiser 260
