hey everyone,
just a quick question. i have a 85 4winns 217 santara fisherman. i have wells under the seat cushion behind the captains chairs. there is a drain plug in each. what are they?????

also if you look at the picture you will see some teak wood across the back of the boat. the 2 outside lids flip open the middle does not. there is also a drain there. what is this for?

the back im think im gonna use as a bait hold. i have an airator that i will put in it. under the seats im thinking of using them for caught fish. what do you guys think??

Fishbox/coolers on the seats, baitwell in the rear. That's my guess.

probably originally sold as coolers. (not livewells/aerators since there is no inlet, just the drain)

yeah i didnt think they originally were live wells because of no inlet. however does anyone see a problem using them as wells? instead of bringing a cooler on board to take up more of my much needed space.
any clue on the back area? the back area does hold water and has a drain. any problem using that as a bait well

They may have been put there for general storage. Afterall, water will get into any storage unless sealed properly. I'd also think they could be used for coolers as others said.

As for using them as a livewell or baitwell...not sure. Be sure that the lids are tight enough and sealed well so that water doesn't splash all around the place or get into placed you don't want it to. Apart from that and getting water into the compartments, I see no issue with it.

Soak tubs for your feet if the chairs spin around hehehe....

Nah but for real those would be nice for a catfishin boat

Keep your fresh cut bait on ice at your feet.

I believe I'd pour a couple of gallons of clear fresh water in those and see where the drains exit. If they're direct, through-hull drains, I see no problem using them as live bait wells. If they drain somewhere a long way from the wells, I'd want to inspect the hoses before counting on them. You just never know. A baitwell leak into the bilge will make your boat stink for the rest of the time you own it. Guaranteed!

Also, if you use them as bait wells, scrub the dickens out of them when you get home, and rinse them well. Nothing nastier than a dirty bait well that wasn't sufficiently cleaned. A little Chlorox mixed with water does a yeoman's job of destinking bait wells. Just rinse it very well.

all drain outside the boat! the ones under the seat drain on each side and have working stops. they drain just fine. the one in the back of the boat also holds water and drains outside the boat.
i still wonder what they were intended use was. i can see storage for the under seat ones but the back of the boat just doesnt make sense seeing as how the middle section doesnt open.

Beer and ice. Fish are smelly. (just kidding) But really, those aren't bait wells or anything like that, convenience coolers I'd say. For beer and ice.
