What are they worth?

In cleaning out the old homestead, my sister and I happened on 3 old outboard motors. One of them was my father's who will be 82 this year. The other 2 we believe to be my grandfather's. We have one Scott-Atwater, 1 Johnson and 1 Firestone. Where can we find information about worth and saleability? OR Should we just take them to curb? Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

$0 to $800 a piece depending on age, condition, model, etc.
Could be a lot more for some early prototype models.

You can check ebay for a few weeks and see what they are going for.

Or you can post the make, hp, model, and serial numbers here, and someone will give you an educated guess.

Thanks Roscoe, however, after just speaking with my sister, I am going to edit my post. I have 2 of the models incorrect. One is a Firestone and one is a Scott-Atwater.

The same rules apply.
Some models have some collectors value, some don't.
Without knowing the exact model and condition, its anybody's guess.

I think the Firestone motor may also have been made by Scott-Atwater. Back in the 40's 50's 60's, many motors were made by one company, and marketed under different names.

I should mention that eBay prices are way higher than you're likely to get Rummaging them. Garage Sale prices are usually in the $25 ballpark. If you do eBay them, shipping costs weigh heavily because something like that may need to ship Freight. Some old outboards are never bid upon because of it.

Here is a link to a site with a lot of information that could be useful...
http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/

I should point out that the AOMCI Ask-a-member section has a strict rule about not posting 'How-much-is-it-worth' questions.
