Re: What are your favorite fishing shows or magazines?
Hi all,
Learned a few things from that old freshwater fishing show that I can't remeber the name of-lol, But I do remember the guy's name: Babe Winkleman. In one of his shows he explained something that really had a positive effect of my catch/off rates.
Simply how to sharpen a hook, even if new. He demonstrated, using a hook file, how to sharpen a hook from a round head into a triangular head.
After learnng his trick, my catches v. losses went up up 5 fold. In /83, I snout-snagged two musky (sameday within 20 min of each other) and brought them in.
Put them back as they were under weight and out of season but what a fight and I was so surprised both were snagged. Anyway, hook sharpening using the triangulation method apparently (and I agree) breaks the surface or cartlidge barrier easier that a sharp round point hook. Thanks Babe Winkleman !
