Hi everyone; this is my 1st post here. Nice to meet you all! I just bought my User Name and she came with the above mentioned motor and a trailer for $200.00 US. Unfortunately, I'm only able to deduct the motor's year down to '60-'63 and need to know what battery I can use with it. I don't have the manual so I'm at a bit of a loss. Any information on this motor (including or beyond the question posed here) would be most apprieciated. Thanks in advance and happy boating!
~Turtle

The starter on those motors only draws at most 40A, so just about any starting battery will work. If it has a generator (cylindrical thing belted to the flywheel on the right of the carbarator) then that's all you need. If not, a deep cycle battery will be needed to run lights, etc, and you'll have to recharge that battery periodically. Deep cycle batteries put up better with discharging than plain starting batteries. Marine batteries are normally of heavier construction, and are often deep cycle.
As far as I know, there is no '60 to '63 35hp johnsons. On top of the transom bracket there should be a plate with your serial number and (most importantly) your model number. Post it for more info:

RDJE/RD(E)-19 = 35hp '57/'58
RD(ES)-21 \= 35hp '59
RX??-13 to RX??-16 = 33hp '65 to '68
