What would be the best type of battery to buy for this motor? Cranking amps, etc...?

You don't need much.

Basically, the smallest marine starting battery you can find.

It will likely be 450 cca, or 550 mca.

Most places around here only carry 1 or 2 marine starting batteries.
A small one, and a big one.

what about the dual marine batteries? The ones that can be used for trolling or starting? I have wondered about these and if that woould mean I need to recharge all the time since it can be used as a trolling battery also, although I would not be buying it for the trolling motor.

If you have to charge the batteries all the time then something is wrong.Possible it's not charging.
Digital radios and some depth finders don't/won't shut off completly and will drain the system
Check the charging system..

2 batteries 450CCA with a switch is a good setup. That way you always have a hot battery.
That's what I use.I have twin motors and this works great.

I was not speaking of the current battery I have on the boat. I was just asking about the dual purpose marine batteries on the market today. They are dual purpose trolling or starting battery. I guess I was just not understanding the concept. It made me think that if you used it as a starting battery you would have to recharge all the time like a trolling motor battery. I would not be buying it to use on both motor and trolling motor at the same time.
