Well, first day of my vacation starts today, and as of now, the only day that's showing rain in the forecast (hopefully it stays that way!). So the wife and I was talking last night about random things, and out of no where, I get the idea of taking the family down to Cabelas today. She loves the idea, and we're all excited about going down. I'm planning on picking up a few things for the boat while we're there, and I'm excited because her and the boys have never been there before. Not sure if all cabelas are built the same, but the one by us (50 miles away) is absolutely incredible.. they have a restaurant inside where you can order all different types of game foods... there's a huge room full of deer that hunters have taken in the forests of WV, and they have these gigantic aquariums (10's of thousands of gallons) full of game fish from the area (bass, cat's, walleye, sauger, etc.)... and to top it off, there's also a showroom there with all sorts of antique firearms dating as far back as the civil war era.

While the prices on the few items I'm wanting to pick up are a little more expensive than if we was to go to Gander Mountain, and the it's a little bit farther of a drive, I think it will be worth the extra's cause I know the wife and boys will really enjoy seeing all there is to see in there. So, with any luck, in about 2hrs. (don't open till 10am, darnit lol) we'll be walking through the doors and spending an hour or two (more as long as the baby cooperates lol) walking around inside the beauty that is Cabelas!

P.S. I am not now, nor have I ever been a spokesman for Cabelas.. lmao

Have fun in Wheeling. Looks about like the one in Dundee, Mi. since they started their building boom their prices have gone north to much.

I do have to agree with ya on that.. however, the items I'm picking up (couple little things... 2nd anchor for transom, boarding ladder and a few smaller things) all told, I'll be spending about $20 more than I would from other stores, but we're more-so going for the 'sight-seeing' lol. HOWEVER, knowing my wife and I, instead of spending the $100 +/-, we'll end up spending double what we're planning cause we'll see things that "We REALLY Need this!!" type items haha

Bout the only thing I buy there is in the bargain cave. Do enjoy walking around and getting ideas of things to purchase elsewhere, like iboats ....

Good luck with the weather on your vacation. I started my two week vacation Saturday, and the forecast is 40-60 percent rain everyday for the ten day forecast.

I've been buying from Cabela's by catalog and online since the 80s, but never set foot in a store until October of '10. I live in central Florida and that store in Wheeler is probably the closest to me.

In '10 I got sent to Salt Lake City on biz trip, and had some time to kill. Saw a Cabela's in Lehi and stopped in. I could have signed over my paycheck.

Well, im a little late in following up on this thread, but our trip to Cabelas turned out pretty good.. the kids LOVED seeing the aquariums as well as all the displays with stuffed animals, and the wife and i picked up a couple new lures.. also got a couple new fenders for the boat and a few other 'small items'.. all-in-all a good, fun family trip.

Just so happened to have the Geico stock car there the day we went down.

The closest Cabelas is six miles from me so like ten minutes. We go maybe once a year and it looks just like the one you visited. Just a big sporting goods store. Last time I went was I think last year because they were the only store to carry Rock Tamers (the huge mudflap system that stops rocks from hitting your boat) anywhere other than custom truck shops that charged double. Apparently the Frito Pie is supposed to be awesome but they are always sold out when we've tried for it. The kids love that place. They used to exclusively sell the Cimaron bowriders that I don't think are made any longer which are a severely downgraded Larson.
