Cheap
Effective
Durable

(pick any two)

if you are going to the trouble to install a Bimini , I would go for effective and durable. It may cost $500+

Well put. Cheap isn't good, and good isn't cheap. I had a bimini made for our boat last spring; 8' long, 1" stainless, set me back about $1200 but worth every penny.

For about $150 you can get something called "Anchor Shade". That'll get you out of the sun when at rest but can't be used when the boat is in motion (or with wind gusts over 20mph).

Yup, a custom-fit bimini will be expensive but if you don't need side curtains, a 'semi-custom' off-the-shelf bimini can be bought from iboats. Just measure the size you need, then select the color and fabric desired. If there's no mounting hardware on the boat you'll have to add it. Link here: Bimini Tops - Sunbrella Bimini Tops for Boats & Pontoons - iboats

I'll second the AnchorShade. I've had a white one for 15 years (2 boats) and it's very effective shade when not moving.

Here's a picture pulled from their website.

Picked mine up from Cabela's, It is not there premium model but has worked very well for two years so far, made from what they call "sharkskin" and it holds up well at 30 mph. No complaints here, just over 200 bucks on sale.
