What bit of rope???

The scene: a slipway at a Lake in Cumbria, England. We launched the RIB at 8am which meant the car park was empty and launching was a breeze
Pottered around the lake trying out different engine settings and then decided to recover at around 1pm.........and the car park was full of tourists with a queue of cars waiting for spaces.
As quickly as we could we hooked the boat on but "her indoors" (who is always left in charge of connecting up the trailer board) forgot until the boat cover was on. Normally I'd run the cable through the boat and secure it in a couple of places but the pressure was on as the glares of waiting tourists burned into us........so I just slung the cable over the boat cover and hooked up.

About a mile down the narrow twisty road "her indoors" said "What's that bit of rope trailing behind the boat?"
I checked the mirror and saw the trailer board cable following the boat and the plug being broken into a thousand pieces as it bounced along the tarmac. It took me another two miles to find somewhere to pull in and recover what was left of the cable :(

Never again will I let impatient tourists hurry me into making a mistake like that: a very scary ten mile journey after that, knowing that I had no lights at all on the back

Been there Bro. I once forgot to plug the connector on our Heron's trailer to the car outlet and the bl00dy thing did exactly what you describe. Wound up costing 20 bucks for a new connector and 7 metres of trailer light cable. Plus about three hours of frustration making the thing work properly!

Yeah Triton; the cost isn't high but it was very time consuming fixing it properly :(
