What can I mix in my gas to help my motor?

Just got a new motor on Saturday. 2007 9.8hp Tohatsu 4 stroke. Not a big deal, but for my broke ***, it's one of the nicer things I own. I'd like to keep it running smoothly and was wondering what I could mix in with the gas to help it say in great shape.

thanks

Just use good, clean, water free fuel and you'll be fine.

Treat it to proper and correct preventive maintenance and it will love you forever.

-wash off the outside

What elevation do you live at? What's the mean relative humidity? Is your remote tank a 3 or 6 gallon and how fast do you go through a tank? Does your wife or in-laws take it out? Do you take it out on full moons?

Just run fresh fuel as much as possible and on your last tank, add some sea foam and DO NOT run your carb dry! Winterize properly and you will have a fantastic running motor for years to come.

Nobody takes the boat out but me. I live in The Northern Bay Area in Northern California. It's garaged. The garage can get very hot or very cold depending on the time of year. I don't have lights on my boat yet, so no full moons for me :) 3 gallon tank. Usually only need one tank in a day.

What do you mean "don't run your carb dry"?

There are varied opinions about running the carb out of fuel before you "store" it for the winter or prolonged periods of non-use. I have found that by doing that, the gaskets/plastic/rubber parts are compromised by drying them out. I.E. you end up rebuilding your card sooner than later. If you run sea foam or just about any other fuel stabilizer though the motor before you store for the winter, start-up will be a pleasurable experience in the spring.

There really isn't a time of year I couldn't take this boat out. It rains a bit more in the winter, but not too bad. I live in Northern California, lol.

Now that I have a motor again, it most likely won't sit more than 3 weeks without going out.

So you're saying run SeaFoam, don't drain the carb or run it dry, and that will be what's best for the motor?

Seafoam=Snake-oil.

You don't need it. There is nothing you need to add to the gas other than outboard oil. Anything else is just a waste of money. The new TCW-III oils keep you engine well oiled and clean with very little carbon build-up.

Just run the correct ratio of any brand TCW-III oil (I use Wal-Mart Tech brand) to REGULAR gas and the engine will probably run longer than you will live.

Pretty sure he said he has a four stroke.
I'm going to say stay away from adding any oil to your gas.
I do hope you already know this.
If you were letting it sit longer and using ethanol gas maybe a product like star tron.
Edit:If it is a brand new outboard make sure theres oil in the crankcase, some don't come with any when new.

Four stroke doesn't take oil in the gas.
As stated before, clean fresh gas. Regular maintanance.
There should be a maintanance schedule in the owners manual or if you don't have that, get a service manual. It should have a maintanace schedule.
Weather you use Seafoam or not is up to you.
Personally I use it to setup my outboard for the winter, but I understand you get to use yours year round, Luck man.
3 weeks of sitting should'nt cause any issues.

My bad--Didn't read properly. Blame it on A---AL-- ALZH--What was I trying to do? Oh, well, nice day today.
4 stroke: Add nothing to gas. Run it, perform regular maintenance, and enjoy it.

Re: What can I mix in my gas to help my motor?

yeah, I went with a 4 stroke since it's easier to just stop off at the gas station and fill up than mixing anything. It's a 2007 Tohatsu and the guy was a photographer who took it out to get pictures of birds and stuff. He seemed pretty well off and said he had it serviced every 3 months. He said he took it out 1-2 times per month. It's pretty nice. I just want to keep it that way. I had an 81 honda 4 stroke before this and it slowly fell apart. I flushed that every time, drained the gas, and it fell apart in a year. Seals leaked and water got in the lower end. I was just looking for a way to keep something like this from happening to my new motor before getting a few years to enjoy it.

Do you primarily run in salt or fresh water?

Brackish....Napa River, Petaluma River, Sonoma Creek. Reason I went with Tohatsu. I read somewhere that Tohatsu/Nissan were better for Salt/Brackish for some reason.

Re: What can I mix in my gas to help my motor?

I'd read the engine manual and do what it says and avoid a lot of opinions that are not based on actual facts. How come a brand new engine comes without any gas in it and the gaskets don't dry out, but they will if you store it for a couple months? Gaskets are as dry as they are ever going to be, when they install them in the engine. My Honda four stroke manual says DO NOT store with gas in it. If you have ethanol gas, you definately want to add fuel stabilizer to the tank and it would be better not to leave it with the fuel in it at all. I started adding the Marine Stabil to the ethanol gas we have here and to my surprise the engine starts and seems to run better.

Bla Bla Bla! Just do what the manual recommends and flush the motor after use.

where's a good place to get a manual or service manual for 4 year old motors?
