I don't mean to sound cold blooded but this demonstrates why people as they get older need to have a trusted power of attorney to handle some things. In spite of all of your good intentions Darth due to Bank secrecy acts and that sort of thing there is no information that the bank or insurance company could leagaly give you on behalf of this lady unless there was a current POA on file at both. A lot of our well intentioned laws can bite us in the rear at times! I'm so happy this story has a happy ending.... not many of them do.
