Re: what carpet should i use

I think it depends on how you use and care for the boat. I initially eliminated carpet and used no-skid coating. My reasoning was like everyone elses, it holds water, hides rot, etc. On my reconversion I did last year I went with full carpeting. One complaint that I had with the coating was it was very hot on the feet. On Sundays, the wife and I take the boat out for fun stuff, and the no-skid was unbearable in the heat. The other thing was I don't let the boat get excessively wet. I don't boat in the rain, I don't leave it uncovered. Any water that makes it in from swimming is dry by the time I get it back home.

So I went with carpet, glued down over the no-skid. Between the no-skid and the carpet glue, the will be virtually no water getting to any structure, and it is much more comfortable.

So I would say if you are not going to be getting a lot of water in, you could stay with carpet. If you are going to be leaving it uncovered and it will get wet a considerable amount of time, then no carpet is the way to go.

You could also go no-skid with snap in carpet sections so when it is fishing time the carpet goes, when it is family time, the carpet gets snapped in...
