Hooked....I would seriously consider replaceing the VRO pump with the latest up to date pump. I know the pumps ain't cheap but from your posts', and I think I read them right, it sounds like you had an oiling problem. Also, replace ALL your fuel and oil lines at the very minimum.

Check out your alarm system for the VRO system and insure all alarms are working. You can find the procedures in the service manual.

Re: What caused piston to burn?

Hello this is hookedonjc Im now (redshad) Its been along time. I forgot my old password and email has changed.
Well 8 years later from my orginal first rebuild here I am again. Yeap she ran for 8 years not to bad for first rebuild with iboats experts help. I now have it broke down again with a broken seal ring on the crankshaft and a torn up block from it. Just wandering does anyone have any ideas what caused the seal ring to come apart. the last time I ran it before this problem I did have a plug foul out and I belive I was running on three cylinders for about 5 minutes. the pistions were fine only one damaged from the seal ring pices. Thanks for any ideas.

You would be best served if you started a new thread and not try to revive an 8 year old post.....

It is good to know the prior problem, put a link to this thread in your new thread. Just curious, did you ever figure out what caused it to overheat and lean out?..

Re: What caused piston to burn?

I sure did. After rebuild in 2004 I began mixing my oil in the fuel because of not trusting th VRO. well after some ruff ideling issues and such I discovered that the diaphram in the VRO was cracked around the washer inside the VRO pump. This I belive was the original problem and improper fuel oil mixture occured causing my original failure. By the way all but one piston was still in great shape when I pulled back apart last night 8 years later. The one with damage was caused by the pices of seal ring from the crank.
