What causes a weak tell tale on a 3cyl?

I got a weird issue. I replaced the water pump housing and impeller. Took the boat to the lake and the tell tale starts out strong. After about 10 or 15 min it starts to sputter and then just dribbles. Even at WOT. If i kill the motor and let it sit for about 10 sometimes 15 min and restart the tell tale is strong again and does the same thing after 10-15 min of operation. I know the pump is good I got water gushing out of the exhaust ports even at idle.

I am afraid that there is water getting to the top of the motor but its not flowing. Which is just as bod or worse then not getting water to the top of the motor.


Anyone have anay ideas? The Tell tale is new i just added it. I used clear hose so i could see if the new pumo was sucking air and the exit fitting is new.

What is the model number of your outboard? Do you have any photos that you can post showing how the tell tale is installed?

its a 1977 70 hp. I dont have the model # off hand. Im pretty sure they didnt have more than 1 70 hp model in 77. I added the tell tale the location is on the starboard side look at this link. I installed in in the location circled in yellow on post #6
