OK, I've been mulling this over all winter....what covers do i buy for my 20 yr. old 19' bowrider. I have an appointment with the canvas guy in a few weeks now, so decisions need to be made. Right now, here's what I have: No bow cover (old one shrunk so much i tossed it); Convertible cockpit cover (decent condition, but not really great for normal cover when boat is not in use; Canvas cockpit cover (not great, but can do the job I guess).
I bought the boat for $3k so I'm not looking to spend a ton on covers for it. I NEED to cover the bow somehow but I can't decide whether to get a canvas made for just the bow ($175) or get a full canvas cover made ($600) or just buy a generic cover that doesn't snap on (mooring/trailerable cover) ($220 ??).
The reason I'm even considering the full canvas snap on is that if I use seperate bow and cockpit covers it seems there is always a spot where the bow cover meets the windshield that water can get in. The canvas guy says that's why many opt for the full one-piece cover. However, the $600 seems like too much to spend on this boat.
We normally are "fair weather boaters" meaning we go out on days when all covers come off. Occasionally, we'll cruise around with the convertable cover up, but not too often. Boat will be in a slip most of summer with a few trailer trips to other lakes also.
Who has gone through this decision and what advise do you all have?
