What crankcase will work

I have a 1979 Evinrude 175 HP that is in need of a new crankcase. I have 4 cylinders that have deep gouges in them and two burnt pistons (middle on both sides). It's already 30 over so short of getting them all resleeved (way expensive) I'm looking to replace the crankcase but I'm having trouble finding a direct replacement. What years will work for my motor? I'd like to keep my old crank and connecting rods since all of these seem to be in good shape. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The 1979 150 and 175 use the same number crankcase. The 200 that year will also work-it's a high ported block which will makes more hp at top end rpm's. Most of these crossflow crankcases are pretty much the same, except for differences in the tapped holes on the cases. Such as, the 84 and later blocks have mounting holes for the power trim on the back exhaust cover. Also, 84 and later have the VRO and may have different fuel pump pulse outlets-which can be converted. The very (1976-77) early blocks had different mountings for the power packs. The rotating assy's should all work. None of the bubble back 235's will mount to your exhaust adapter.

Thanks! I found a guy on EBay that has an OMC crossflow V6 block (says that it's new too) I'm going to try to find the part number on mine and see if they match. Any idea where this is located on the block? I looked everywhere on mine and apparently missed it.

You can identify your block and perhaps the other block by comparing the factory info from the casting plug on the top of the engine. See the attached model identification 1.jpg picture. This plug shows the exact engine model and original serial number-that would match the serial tag on the transom bracket. Hopefully, your two blocks have this information on this casting plug. Some of the blocks that were reman have another stamp on the side of the block. model identification 5.jpg This stam indicates the block was a 150S model and the reman date. That may be helpful in your search.
