What damage may have been done?

I have a 1996 Evinrude 115 which I recently acquired. I ran my engine in the tilted position using the indicator port with pressurized water. I have since became aware that I should not have run the engine in this position. Can anyone tell me what damage I may have done to my engine. This is my first boat and I am very concerned that I may have damage the engine before I've had time to enjoy it with my family. Thanks for any help. Randall

It is unlikely that you did any damage because the fuel/oil mixture would have stayed the same.

Under some conditions, if the fuel/air ratio was changed by running tilted so that the engine ran lean, damage could occur.

Re: What damage may have been done?

Thanks for the help. When I got the engine the oil injection was disabled so I premix the gas and oil. Would help me with another question? My engine began leaking water at the lower seam and behind the 4 bolt plate after my father took the boat out and rain it without the indicator plug. He then flushed it with water pressure of 58 psi. Could his actions caused the water leaking or was it just bad timing. Sorry for the additional questions...I bought the manual but it does not help with these concerns. I have three small boys that I'm concerned of breaking down with. Thanks

Re: What damage may have been done?

If you flushed the motor while not running with enough pressure, it is possible to force water into the engine; it is unlikely that you could do that with the engine running. In any event, any water and excess oil and gas would drain from the engine if it is stored correctly in the running position.

Water in the mid section is supposed to drain from various openings on the lower unit. If the mating surface between the mid-section and the gearcase is not sealed, water will drain from there as well. I don't seal mine and never have in over thirty years, but a lot of people do.

If you are speaking of water leaking at the powerhead, that's another matter.

Re: What damage may have been done?

Thanks for your time Ezeke. The power head is fine. I think some of the extra water is coming from one of the thermostats being stuck shut. I hope to change the thermostat tonight and if I hope that will reduce some of the water coming out of the seam and behind the 4 bolt plate. I welcome any other advice...otherwise thanks again.
