I bought this 1981 x 16.5? Wellcraft Airslot off Craigslist as a project in February this year with the intention of rebuilding it into almost new condition, with alterations to suit my taste.
So, out came the deck the transom and all the old flotation foam, I replace all of this with new material and a lot of sweat. I install 2 x 18 gal. belly tanks with all new fittings and hoses, 2 new fuel gauges, new 12 circuit fuse block, lights, compass, bow eye, seats, 3 way battery switch, bilge pump, fenders, and more.
The boat came with a 75hp Johnson, and I also bought a 1977 140 hp Evinrude which I realized later is 20hp over max allowed.
Both motors started, but will need some tune up and minor parts, I have replaced the coil packs on the 140, and the 75 needs an electric choke.
Te bottom of the boat still needs to be repainted after I removed the barnacles.
Trailer got 2 new tires, but still need lights, fenders, some welding work, rust removal and a paint job.
So not counting labor I have spend over $3000.00 so far, just added all the receipts together and almost had a heart attack.
My dilemma is, with the economy as it is; I have now run out of money for this project and do not see myself finishing this off in the foreseeable future.
Question: What do I do Now, do I put it in storage until I can afford to finish it, or do I sell it.
Will I be able to find some one who will have the same vision I had for this, and try to get back
the money I?ve put into the project, or do I bite the bullet and sell at what I can get for it.
What do you guys suggest?
Thanks,
Joe.
