Re: What do I got???? 0432290

I purchased this powerhead rebuilt and wanted to verify vintage. I was replacing an '84 1.6l Sea Drive (V4 - flat back) powerhead.

I know it's not a Sea Drive powerhead because I had to drill and tap a hole to attach my linkage.

RW

Gotcha. That's gonna make it tough without that number.

Re: What do I got???? 0432290

That almost sounds like a part number. I'll check when I get home for you.

In the meantime, all the V4 crossflows 1979 and newer will work on a Sea Drive as long as there is a boss cut with a threaded hole on the starboard front lower pan mount. If your Sea Drive linkage uses this hole the replacement must have it too. Otherwise the powerhead is the same.

Good luck!

My replacment had the boss but withuot a hole, if that helps. I taped the hole without much issue.

RW

432290 is a part number that has not been available since 2002.But at $2700.00.it probably was (is) a powerhead number.
DHP

The powerhead you have was originally used for 1989 thru 1991 88 & 90 hp outboards.

-John

Re: What do I got???? 0432290

I hope this isn't wear the conversation takes a turn for the worse!

Would this motor be producing slightly less power than the 1.6l it replaced? I inquire because I never got as much rpm out of the replacement or at least as much I thought I should have. WFO rpm was in the upper 4800-4900, with ideal conditions getting into the bottom of 5K (maybee). It is one of a pair, with other motor running @ 5.5K @ WFO.

Powerhead was actaully purchased as a short block. I installed new igintion components(except timer base and stator) and underhood wiring. Rebuilt carbs, new recirc valves, boyseen power reeds, new stats, new water pump, new exhaust seals, etc. Static timing (Joe Reeves style) was @ approx. 24 deg., verfied strong spark at all cylinders. Ran and idled smoothly and within temp, but just never up to full rpm?

Did I get screwed on the short block? Should I tinker with timing? Re-prop?

RW

For what it's worth my 1987 1.6L SeaDrives are bubbleback and are rated by OMC at 110 hp.
