so 2 summers ago i buy a boat to redo ,i go see the boat even take boat out on short spin around the hudson ,all seemed cooled ,i understood it was an older boat . The way the owner explained it(owner is actually a used boat dealer) 1988 thompson 240 /5.0lx original motor remanufactured low hours ,he even gave me the manuals for 5.0 lx ,i know i took him at his word ,after taking out on river with owner ,and the price ,i felt all was fair ,now when i look at motor ,now 2 years later(spent 2 years on redoing interior and bottom of boat)) what i thought was a 1988 5.0 lx may be WHAT? can someone give me the bad news(i suspect its bad news ,because i just pulled the thermostat housing off ,see my earlier post from this week and it was for big block gm) heres the numbers i got 14094766 k0521UFC may not even be marine engine ,uuuugggghhhh

technically there is no "marine engine" , they all begin life as a chunk of cast iron. Steel components for auto`s and brass components for marine.Standard components for auto`s ,spark protected ones for marine.
GM made the block, mercruiser finished the block,

That number is your engine serial number. Very important, don't lose it. Everything you do with that engine will require that number. When you want parts, that's the number you need. For Merc's, year has less meaning than serial number.

Myself, I would be stoked to find out the boat had big block Chevy power instead of 305 Chevy power.

But that's just me.
Good luck & hope you enjoy your boat!

I thoroughly enjoy taking a neglected boat & making it sea worthy again.
