What do I have here

I purchases a starcraft boat with a Evinrude Fisherman Kicker motor on it. I'd guess its about 5 HP. All I can find on the motor is a serial number
5032A-E02353 which seems to net me zero clues to the year when searching the internet. It seems to run good but I suspect it needs a new impeller since it getshot pretty quick while having available water. I also get no water stream from any where but then I can't seem to find a spot where it might come through other then what look to be exhaust port.

Thanks Craig

The first number is the model number but 50 is incorrect as that would indicate a larger motor. Is it 5302A?

Took about 2 minute with the right nuimber 1963 5.5 horse.

Man does this little motor run nice. Any idea where the water discharge would be?

Thanks for your help.

You should see water spraying/dribbling out the exhaust bypass hole on the back of the leg. There is no "tell-tale" like on newer motors.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean the round hole about half way down the shaft? If so then I believe I'll need to replace the pump since not much beyond exhaust comes out of that hole.

No harm in doing a water pump service, for peace of mind if nothing else.

Yes - make sure the motor is deep enough in the water to submerge the water pump, which sits on top of the gearcase.

Good idea to inspect the water pump anyway.

The water pump sits directly on the top surface of the lower unit. At a low rpm, the water level should be a couple inches or so above the joint where the lower unit bolts up to the long exhaust so that the water pump is completely submerged..... keeps the impeller lubricated and prevents the possibility of having the pump draw air.

Re: What do I have here

This motor, from the lower cowl, on down, is just like the old 5.5hp Johny/Rudes. The powerhead is quite a bit different, but the ignition system is the same too. I had one of these once and it was a great runner. 1963 was the last year these were made, unfortunately. Sea Kings were then made by Chrysler and Eska.

Just go to the local OMC dealor and order a water pump kit for a 5.5hp of the same year. It'll work just fine. If you tell them that it's a Sea King, they'll laugh at ya, especially if you get a semi-brainless parts man. These days, parts guys only know how to navigate through a computer and have never been into an outboard.

Thanks for all the help guy's. I went ahead and ordered the parts to replace the pump impeller just for safety sake. The motor runs so well I figured why chance it. Heck the parts were only $15 got love OMC...
