The news last night mentioned that in China, 20% of the children have unacceptable levels of lead in their blood, as compared to 2% of US children. Apparently China does not ban or enforce a ban on lead in paints.

Has anyone verified that the exec actually offed himself? I reason that there is a chance China knows what we want to hear and are giving us what we want. Could be the quickest and, most importantly, cheapest way to make the problem go away for a little while.

They issue a release saying he was so honorable that he chose death rather than face the parents of sickened kids and blah, blah, blah, then re-assign him to another province. I have a hard time with the idea that China is even remotely concerned about the health and well being of Americans. Any corner that can be cut will be cut if they think they can get away with.

Good point: Jasonh, it is hard to know inside a Communist Country that does corntrol the media n' cencors the internet. JR

....well if the source of this incident was the Chinese government, I'm not so sure if I would believe it was suicide.
If their lips were moving...they were probably lying when they said it to the international community.
The Chinese governments policy is start to finish 'CYA'.
