My first post so here goes...

I wondering about the value of a tritoon I'm considering purchasing, my first pontoon boat.

I'm leaning towards a 2005 Crest II LM 25' Tritoon with tapered 24" to 26" pontoons, and a 2004 115 hp Mercury 4 stroke. It's got about 400 hours on it and comes with a full enclosure and travel cover. Everything appears to be in great shape and well looked after. I can get it for $12,000.00.

The other one I was considering was a 2009 Fisher Freedom 220 DLX with a 2005 115 hp Mercury Optimax with about 120 hours. Also in great condition. This one I can get for just under $14,000.00.

Thoughts on these two boats?

Thanks!

Re: Value of 2006 Crest II Tritoon with 115 Mercury 4 Stroke and Another...

Welcome to iboats.

That price doesn't seem terribly out of line, always try to talk them down but if I got that boat for that price I would be okay with it, especially with a full enlosure and being a 25' tri.

Crest makes a very nice boat to, I would put them in the upper half of the makers as far as quality goes.

Definately take the boat and run it for an hour or so in various conditions, fast, slow, booze cruise speed and make sure the engine checks out and that you really like it but that seems like a pretty square deal to me.

Is it in line with similar boats in your area?

So the thinking is that the 2005 Crest II triple toon, (with tapered toons enclosure and the 400 hr. - 2004 115 Merc 4 stroke ) is a better boat, and a better value, than the Fisher double toon, (with the 120 hrs. - 2005 115 Optimax)?

That pontoon is WAY under priced!!!! It should be closer to 20k. Consider this. I sold a 2000 Premier, dual toon pontoon, 40 hp Yam, no enclosure, no trailer for $11,000.

Here is a local listing for a Crest Pontoon. It's a 2001 with a 70hp, no trailer, dual toons, and no enclosure listed at $13k. To me, the toon you are looking at is a steal.

Here's a few more photos the owner sent me this evening. It's been winterized and the folks who did that said it's running well. I have to travel about 24 hours just to see it so I'd appreciate an honest opinion or two on it before I commit to travelling that far. Please check out the photos closely and let me know what you think. Thanks!

I agree the Crest appears to be a great deal. Where is the boat? There might be an iboater in that neck of the woods who would go take a peek for you.

I drove from Minneapolis to New Jersey to buy a bass boat, sight unseen. The deal was just too good to pass up. I had that boat for 14 years, until I sold it last spring to buy a pontoon. I sold it for $4000 less than what I paid for it!

Go get that toon before it's gone!

That's a great idea. The boat is at Alexander's Landing, Buckeye Lake Marina in Millersport, Ohio. I believe the owner when he says the interior is like new, but the damage to the trim above the pontoon on the left front, (you can just see it in one of the photos) and the corrosion on the pontoons and motor from sitting in the lake for 6 summers had me a bit concerned. Thoughts? This is my first pontoon... is that corrosion hard to remove?

I don't see any damage, but what you're describing is very common and sounds cosmetic. As for the crud on the toons and motor, the good news is that's not corrosion; it's just, well, crud.;) It will take some doing but you'll be able to remove most or all of it. Again, it marginally affects performance, but it's primarily just cosmetic. As for finding an iboater to check it out I'd suggest starting a thread in Boating Topics and Questions asking for someone who's in that area. You'll reach a much broader audience over there. If you need specifics regarding what to look at/for we can help with that.
