What does 30-40 mean on my 30 hp mariner 1999

I HAVE a mariner that on the motor it says 30-40 . IS IT A 30 OR A 40 HP?

Got a serial number?<br /><br />Is it a jet pump model? if so, its a 40 hp motor, that puts out only 30 hp due to the loss of power in the jet pump.

TT,<br /><br />The powerhead for the 30 hp and the 40 hp is the same. The only thing that is different is the carb. My brother's 90hp has 75-90 on the engine. You'll find that manufacurers have several hp engines that run the same block and on the production line the hp isn't determined at the stage of labelling, so the label lists all possible hp. <br /><br />To determine which hp yours is, just check the number on the carb. The carb on the 30 is a WME-63 or WME-64 and on the 40 it's a WME-66 or WME-67.<br /><br />Chris...............
