Johnson 48 SPL.

Motor is running great, thank God. When I turn to key, my control box makes a BEEEWWW noise. It comes from four little holes with a circle around them. Anyone know what this noise is?

That beep tells you the warning system is working. I believe the 48 SPL is not oil injected so the sound you heard would occur constantly if the engine ever overheats. That sound does not mean go back to the dock. It means the engine is hot NOW! Turn it off and figure out why.

You may be right, Gary. It only chirps once when I turn the key.

That's probably the newer warning horn doing what it is designed to do, which is to tell you that it is working when you first turn the ignition on.

You did not state the age of your motor or control thus "probably".

Re: What does BEEEWWW mean?

Is it PEEEWWWW or BEEEWWW? If PEEEWWWW you may have passed gas and the boat knows it. However, since you didn't post a model number I'm not sure if yours has the pass gas alarm.

It sounds like it's working fine and what you are hearing is the alarm letting you know it works as Silvertip stated. I know, it sounds sorta like it's dying and it's not a nice chirp but it is what it is. Think of your car, when you start it you see all the dummy light come on in the dash for a second or two to let you know they all work and you don't have a burned out bulb or something. The same principle applies here. It's letting you know the alarm itself works, I doubt more than that, so it's a good thing that you hear it. Now when you start the motor and hear it you can be assured the actual alarm works and your only concern, if any, is do all of the alarm sending units work like they should? Who knows?
