What does Enricher Valve Do?

I have a 1998 Merc 75 Hp motor. The boat would not plane or get above idle speed. I was at the lake troubleshooting, when I pressed in my choke (which I believe operates this Enricher valve) I took off!! I was able to get up to about 3200 RPM, but that is better than idle speed. I could stay there until I came off plane. Once off plane and went to full throttle, stayed at idle speed until I pressed in my choke. Is it possible that this Enricher valve is malfunctioning? What does this thing do? Thanks.

The enrichment valve takes fuel from the top carb bowl and lets it go down the line in to the intakes. Sounds like you need to clean the carbs---Bob
